‘Why President Kenyatta Will Not Extend His Term Beyond 2022’ Ruto

Recently, several leaders have been politicking about President Kenyatta’s aim to cling onto power. However, Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned the politicians calling for president’s extension of the term.

He said that Jubilee party leaders were not planning to change the constitution to accommodate Kenyatta. Dr Ruto added that the president was a democrat.

Therefore as per the DP, Kenyatta had no intention to cling onto power after the election.

Dr Ruto spoke yesterday in Nyeri County during the burial ceremony of Martha Kirigo Gachagua. Many politicians attended the burial ceremony, which took place in Mathira.

Unfortunately, the politicians turned mourning into a political event. Different leaders expressed their views regarding the position of a prime minister.

For instance, Delgut MP Nelson Koech stated that they supported the extension of term for President Kenyatta.

Koech wanted President Kenyatta to become the prime minister while Ruto assumes the president role after the election in 2022. According to the MP, that way, Jubilee would perform even better.

Koech noted that it all depended upon Kenyatta’s ability and willingness to continue serving Kenya.

MP Joseph Tonui of Kuresoi South and David Sonkok nominated MP, on Tuesday backed Koech’s stand.

Mr Sonkok emphasized on Koech’s proposal. He supported the idea saying Jubilee would be able to accomplish its goals, especially the big four agenda.

On the other hand, Tonui confirmed that Rift Valley leaders were all supporting the Koech’s views.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria dismissed that idea. He cited that those advocating for the extension of the term were drunk. He assured that the president would retire after the end of his term.

Kuria maintained if the president wanted to remain in power, he would be aware. Besides he is an MP in Kenyatta’s government as he argued.

Leaders from Mt Kenya emphasized respect for the constitution. Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici urged leaders to step down once their term ends.
