Kipchumba Murkomen, a strong Ruto ally and former Majority Leader in the Senate, has reacted to Uhuru’s upcoming Rift Valley tour announcement.
The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator said that the visit is long overdue. In a post on his official Twitter account, Murkomen said that contrary to most people’s expectations, all Ruto allies from the Rift Valley region would attend Uhuru’s meetings.
“Rift Valley region under DP Ruto’s leadership has voted for the President four times. For four years he has been missing in action in the Rift Valley,” Murkomen said.
Additionally, Murkomen said that leaders in the region have several questions on governance and projects.
“I can’t wait for the tour. We will be there under the leadership of William Ruto who led us to him,” he said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta plans to tour the Rift Valley sometime in July. His team is yet to announce the exact date, but they have confirmed the tour will happen next month.
Uhuru’s tour comes just a few months before the next General elections. Additionally, it comes when the President and his deputy are not seeing eye to eye. It is unclear whether Ruto will be present during the Rift Valley tour.
