Raila changes strategy, plans to counter Ruto’s influence

Of late, Deputy President William Ruto has gone out of his way to amass influence ahead of the 2022 General Elections. He has made several donations to woo voters, a move which made ODM leader Raila Odinga to question his source of wealth.

Having no other choice, Raila Odinga has changed his strategy. The former prime minister revealed that he has a plan to counter DP Ruto’s influence.

John Mbadi, the ODM chairman, revealed Raila’s plan days after William Ruto planned for a tour in Raila’s strongholds. DP Ruto allegedly has his eyes on Kisumu County.

DP William Ruto is pushing the hustler narrative, telling Kenyans that he understands common mwananchi problems. On the other hand, Raila Odinga is pushing for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Raila Odinga has also started planning for tours to push for the BBI agenda. Through its chairman, ODM announced that they would start touring the country to push for the BBI agenda. Mr. Mbadi also said that they would target the youth, who DP William Ruto seems to be focusing on.

“Raila was our presidential candidate in 2017 and we have not picked another person. He is still our best bet. We shall do all we can to support him for the presidency,” Mr. Mbadi said.

“We are pushing for legit changes that will see an expanded Cabinet, as we push for the appointment of technocrats and MPs in the Cabinet,” he added.

Unfavorable candidate

Speaking on the same issue, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe said that DP Ruto is positioning himself as an unfavorable presidential candidate come 2022. He pointed out that Ruto may even miss out on the elections because of his strategies.

Murathe said that through his actions, the Deputy President had proved that hat he cannot be the future President of Kenya. Murathe also claimed that DP Ruto had disrespected President Uhuru Kenyatta.
