Ruto’s Mt. Kenya allies issue fresh demands

Mt. Kenya Members of Parliament that support Deputy President William Ruto have hit him with fresh demands ahead of the 2022 general elections. The lawmakers believe that the Deputy President will win the upcoming elections.

The leaders had a meeting at Kikuyu MP’s Kimani Ichungwa’s home. They resolved to negotiate their terms with the Deputy President.

The MPs said they wanted to center their terms around economic empowerment for people from the Mt. Kenya region.

“We will divide the negotiations into two parts. Part 1 is the economic agenda, and part 2 is the region’s political interest,” Alice Wahome, the Kandara MP, said.

All the MPs agreed that Ruto had an admirable track record in his political journey. Therefore, they are all willing to back him for the 2022 elections.

“We had to come up with some pre-qualifications and come up with the right person. We can now say that we have identified you as a person we want to journey with. Therefore, we have certain demands,” Moses Kuria, the Gatundu MP, said.

“The leaders on the seat actually drive the country’s economy and destinies of nations. You cannot ask the people in the back seat. Therefore, the reason why we are negotiating with the DP is that he has a good track record with his ministerial duties from Agriculture to Higher Education,” MP Ndindi Nyoro added.

Leaders that support Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have argued that the MPs don’t have a right to negotiate on behalf of the Mt. Kenya people. They claimed that the move is akin to disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In response, Ruto’s allies questioned why they were concerned, yet they claim Ruto won’t be around in 2022.
