President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted that he may support ODM leader Raila Odinga in the upcoming 2022 general elections.
During the Madaraka day celebrations, Uhuru said that he would walk with Raila to realize a prosperous Kenya. The President also defied protocol by asking Raila Odinga to speak after the Deputy President had spoken.
“I want to say here today that whatever the future holds, I look forward to working with him (Raila), all Kenyan leaders and Kenyans to build a better, brighter, more united and prosperous Kenya, East Africa and Africa,” the President said.
This is the first time Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken about his future plans with the ODM leader. His sentiments came barely a day after Raila Odinga assured his supporters in the Nyanza region that Nyanza would not return empty-handed in the 2022 General elections.
Speaking during a radio interview, Raila urged all his supporters to come out in large numbers and register as voters to better their chances at the polls.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s comments during Madaraka day have raised speculations that he would back Raila in 2022. This puts Raila’s supporters at peace since a few months ago; they claimed that Uhuru’s men wanted to betray Raila.
John Mbadi, the ODM national chairman, said that the President’s words demonstrated his commitment to the handshake.
