Pumwani scandal: Husband speaks out for the first time

Faustin, husband to the woman in the heartbreaking viral video giving birth in front of the hospital gate has finally spoken out concerning the ordeal.

He went on to reveal that the two of them are Tanzanians, something that has led to complications while trying to name their baby girl.

According to Faustin, he was working when his wife called him home immediately. On arrival, he found her in a severe condition and rushed her to the hospital. However, the guards at the Pumwani hospital prevented them from gaining access to the hospital on Sunday the 13th of September 2020.

The worried husband decided to take her to another hospital and seek medical services. However, traffic snarl-up forced them to return to Pumwani and beg the guards to let them in.

“I was working when she called me. I rushed home with some medication, but when I got home, she was worse and rushed to get a taxi.”

Further adding,

“The guards blocked us from accessing the hospital. My wife was in the car and could not walk, so we had no option. When we tried to take her to Afuani [Hospital], there was traffic, so I was advised to take her back to Pumwani.”

The guards, however, were adamant and refused to grant them access to the hospital. Faustin went on to explain that Pumwani Hospital nurses and a good Samaritan helped to deliver his baby.

This was contrary to what Christine Gakii, the passerby who helped in the delivery said. According to Gakii, the Pumwani nurses only helped the lady after Gakii had delivered the baby.

I was shocked.

Faustin also revealed that he was shocked to find out that the video trended days after it happened. He further explained that he had expected to see media houses report about the incident on the same day that it happened.

He, however, revealed that he did not hold the hospital in a bad light for not helping them. Faustin also added that he had forgiven the guards for denying them access to the hospital when they needed it the most.
