Raila is not as powerful as he was before handshake – City lawyer Ahmednasir claims

Well-known City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has confidently claimed that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga is not the political force he once was before the famous 2018 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Grand Mullah as he is popularly known among his circles while speaking in an interview with Citizen TV stated that the handshake with President Kenyatta had reduced Raila Odinga who has for a long time been in the Opposition to a mere errand boy.

Ahmednasir Abdullahi made the remarks while justifying why the former Prime Minister should not team up with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the much anticipated 2022 general elections.

He wondered what Raila would bring to the table if he united with the second in command adding that he has become a comedian since the 2018 agreement with the first in command.

“He brings nothing. Raila is not the potent political force he was prior to the handshake. The handshake damaged him a lot; he became a poodle and a stooge,” said Ahmednasir.

Abdullahi added that ODM supporters are hoping that Raila sides with DP Ruto to be politically relevant in the forthcoming General Elections.

He however noted that the 2022 Presidential election would only be energetic and interesting if Raila runs against Ruto.

In March this year, the senior counsel said that Raila and Ruto joining hands ahead of the general elections would be disastrous as he would bring little value to the team since he has lost ground.

In the same month, Law Scholar Makau Mutua argued that the Ruto-Raila coalition would be weak and would most likely lose to the newly formed One Kenya Alliance. He added that however, it is too early to handicap any alliances.

The One Kenya Alliance includes Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya), and Gideon Moi (KANU).

In a past interview, Deputy President William Ruto said that he was willing to work with anyone including ODM leader Raila Odinga as long as they share the same script on how to run the country.

In a separate interview, Raila’s brother Oburu Odinga said that the ODM leader may work with Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 elections after rumors surfaced the duo could be talking behind the scenes.
