Kenyan International John Mark Makwata impressive display in Zambia continued despite Zesco United’s 2-1 loss to Napsa Stars in a Zambian Super League match played on Sunday at MTN Woodlands Stadium.
The former AFC Leopards man seem to have carried his scoring form to his new home as he netted the consolation goal in the defeat. Aaron Kabwe gave the hosts a lead at the 40th minute. 12 minutes later, Collins Sikombe’s solo effort goal saw him double the lead for the side.
Stars had their third goal disallowed with the referee citing an offside. Makwata who was acquired on the final day of the transfer window would for the second time get on the score-sheet at the 89th minute.
His goal this time round could not help the Zambian Super League defending Champions win or pick a draw. He has scored in each game he has played in since making his debut. The striker has scored three goals in three appearances.
Zesco had beaten Mufulira Wanderers 2-0 at Shinde Stadium and recently drew 2-2 against Power Dynamos prior to Napsa clash. The two marked Makwata’s opening two games in Zambia.
Kenyan striker Jesse Were missed the outing while his compatriots Ian Otieno, David Owino and Makwata all started in the clash. For Napsa, they returned to winning ways following the win.
They had struggled in recent weeks, losing 1-0 at home to Nkwazi and 2-0 to Kansanshi Dynamos. After the clash Napsa have moved to position five with 39 points. Napsa have won 11 matches and lost six.
Zesco have also collected 39 points following 12 wins. They have dropped to points behind the league leaders Green Eagles. Their hopes of retaining the league are still on.
