Retired Catholic Archbishop Raphael Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki has passed on.
He has passed away aged 88 years early Tuesday morning. Reports indicate he has died after ailing for a long time. However, details on the specific disease have not been revealed.
“A somber mood as his Eminence John Cardinal Njue has announced the passing on of His Grace Archbishop His Emeritus Raphael Ndingi Mwan ‘a Nzeki. Let us pray for the repose of his soul,” an announcement from the archdiocese of Nairobi.
The late Ndingi celebrated 50 years since his ordination in August 2019. He went down as the first catholic bishop to observe his religious golden jubilee in Kenya.
He first appeared in the limelight after he opposed the Kanu regime. Raphael was not in favor of Kenyans lining up behind their chosen candidate to vote.
He has, on numerous occasions, risked his life for the sake of helping victims of tribal clashes.
Ndingi sat for his Cambridge School Certificate. He managed to score excellent grades.
He then enrolled at university. The late archbishop pursued a bachelor of arts in Political Science and History. His educational background explains why he was a vocal leader; pointing out wrongs committed boldly without fear.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
