A section of Migori residents have asked the Orange Democratic Party to spare Governor Obado.
According to The Star, some civil society organisations have come out to claim that impeaching Obado would halt ‘development’ in the county.
Only two years left
“We are appealing to our respected party Leader Raila to save the situation. We have only two years remaining and having a new governor will not help now,” Peter Ogindi pleaded with the ODM Party Leader.
Peter Ogindi is the Chair of Bunge la Wananchi (Nyanza Network Information Initiative Bunge Power Coordinator).
ODM initiated the impeachment of Obado after the DPP called for his arrest over accusations of embezzling Ksh 73 million belonging to the Migori County.
John Mbadi, the ODM chair, said that the Party Leader, had okayed the impeachment.
However, Peter Ogindi said that a new governor would not have enough time to settle into office and pick up where Obado left. However, he clarified that they had no problem with court cases.
“We have no problem with court cases, only worried about impeachment. We further ask our party chair, John Mbadi, to go slow on the issue so that we can save the people of Migori.” Ogindi said.
Ogindi praised Obado’s track record, saying that he needed to complete the development projects he had started in the county.
“Obado is known for development compared to other Luo counties. Let us give him support so that he completes his term. We want unity and peace to prevail so that the ODM party remains strong and prevail in Migori.”
Obado was not ODM’s preferred candidate for the Migori seat due to his perceive close relations to the DP, William Ruto.
He won his first term as governor on a little known People Democratic Party (PDP) in 2013. However, he won the ODM nominations in the 2017 elections, despite not being the party’s number one option.
