A General Service Unit officers attached to the Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has passed away after a shooting incident.
The Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said in a statement Hudson Wakise; a GSU officer shot his wife, Pauline Wakasa.
Pauline Wakasa, who’s attached to Kilimani Police Station, worked as a traffic officer. The unfortunate incident happened on Tuesday evening.
According to IG Mutyambai, initial reports show a domestic dispute ensued before the shooting.
Mutyambai confirmed Wakise shot Wakasa before turning the gun on himself.
“The GSU officer was off duty since last week Thursday but reported back to work yesterday, but left and retired at his residence around 3.00 pm near the GSU camp. It’s alleged he shot his wife before turning the gun on himself and ended both their lives,” said Mutyambai.”
However, the Nation’s report indicates the two lived at the GSU camp but moved out last Saturday.
At the beginning of the year, the National Police Service (NPS) noted that the increased numbers of suicide among junior police officers who lived outside camps was due to limited supervision.
The forces agreed that counselling among all officers would take centre stage.
The IG said neighbours and eyewitnesses were helping officers with investigations.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i also mourned the deceased officers saying their deaths emanated from psychological challenges, which require attention henceforth.
