Bomet County Senator Christopher Langat on Saturday 21 November 2020 slammed President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga for pushing for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum despite the continued rise of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Senator while speaking in home County hit out at the Head of State stating that the push for BBI saw him suspend his vision for the Big Four Agenda.
He lamented that the “Handshake” President Uhuru Kenyatta had with Raila Odinga brought confusion.
He added that the Big Four Agenda that could have been Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy once his final term is done had now gone with Raila Odinga.
“BBI suspended your core vision of Big Four Agenda three years ago, right now we could not be talking about the insufficiency of Oxygen in hospitals because of Universal Health Care. But because of the confusion that was brought into office by the handshake, your Big Four Four Agenda which could have become your legacy is gone with Raila,” he said.
While referring to the BBI referendum as “the satanic reggae”, the lawmaker urged Uhuru Kenyatta to leave alone and concentrate on the country’s crisis.
Langat went on to point out that it did not make sense for the government to use Ksh. 14 billion for a referendum yet parents do not have jobs as they were sacked when COVID-19 hit the country.
He added that the only legacy Uhuru Kenyatta can leave now is to declare free education for one year.
“You are ready to waste KSh. 14 billion asking yes or no, this is nonsense…most parents don’t have jobs, they were sacked, they don’t have school fees. Mr. President, the only legacy you can leave is to declare free education for one year.”
“You are taking of collecting signatures when our children and teachers are dying of COVID-19 in schools without simple masks of KSh 50, shame on you, both Uhuru and Raila,” he said.
