Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has made headlines once again after storming past security guards manning Raila Odinga’s office at Capitol hill.
The former Governor demanded a meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga. At the time, Raila Odinga had a meeting with a few Githurai traders representatives.
Sonko also tried to access the offices of the former Prime Minister forcefully. However, guards manning the door repulsed him.
Kenyannews is yet to establish why Sonko was insisting on meeting Raila Odinga. At the moment, Sonko claimed that Raila Odinga had scheduled a meeting with him. No one at the office could substantiate his claims.
Jacob Elkanah, the Nairobi County Director of Communications, refused to make any comments on the matter. He asked news reporters to direct the questions to Sonko’s spokesperson, Benson Mulwa.
Asked about the incident, Sonko’s spokesperson said that he was not aware of the incident.
“I have been in court the whole day, and I am not privy of any information,” Mr. Mulwa said.
Dennis Onyango, Raila Odinga’s Personal Assistant, confirmed that there was an incident at Raila’s office. He said that Sonko stormed the premises demanding to see Raila Odinga.
“It is true, he (Sonko) came to Capitol Hill and wanted to see Raila. Raila was not expecting him, and we did and did not know his agenda,” Raila’s assistant said.
Before his impeachment, Sonko had attempted to meet Raila Odinga in a bid to save his career. Unfortunately, he did not receive any response from Raila’s office.
