Dr. Doreen Adisa Lugaliki is the first doctor to die of Covid-19 in Kenya. The brave doctor was only 30 years old. She dedicated her life to her patients.
Unfortunately, Dr. Adisa contracted Covid-19 while treating some of her patients. On Friday, doctors admitted her to Aga Khan Hospital.
Barely 48 hours after her admission, she succumbed to the virus. Dr. Adisa was a lively soul who posted pictures of herself on her Facebook page. On 11th April, she posted a picture of herself on her page.
Her colleagues typed messages of condolences on her Facebook page. Some went ahead to recall the lovely moments that they shared with her.
“My heart is shattered. Go well, my friend,” Dr. Elizabeth Wala of AMREF posted.
One of her other colleagues also took to her social media page to express her grief.
“I will hide under a rock until Dr Adisa Lugaliki wakes up and says it was a bad joke,” gynecologist Nelly Bosire wrote.
On learning about her demise, Kenyans took to their social media pages to give their messages of condolences.
Most of her friends and colleagues referred to her as “Kadoreen”. Other than the doctor, two nurses have also succumbed to the virus.
Medical fraternity in fear
Following the doctor’s death, healthcare workers are now scared of contracting the deadly virus. They are skeptical about their safety as they attend to covid-19 patients.
361 healthcare workers have tested positive for the virus. So far, a total of 9,448 people have tested positive for Covid-19.
181 people, unfortunately, succumbed to the virus. The numbers continue to rise on a daily basis.
It is still unclear whether Dr. Lugaliki contracted the virus due to the lack of personal protective gear. The medical fraternity has expressed their disappointment with how the county and national governments are handling healthcare workers.
They pointed out that healthcare workers need the utmost protection.
