A 17-year-old student from a Kisii High School who attacked two teachers and stabbed them has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges.
The student, who seemed remorseful, appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Stephen Njoro of Kisii Law Court to answer the charges.
Counsel Hillary Kaino on behalf of the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, told the court that the state would charge the minor with two accounts for attempted murder.
However, the youngster maintained his innocence and pleaded with the court to release him so that he could continue with his studies.
The accused was granted his wish by the magistrate and released on a bond of Ksh 100,000 or Ksh 50,000 cash bail.
In case the student fails to raise the amount, he will be detained at Manga Juvenile Center pending pre-trial and mention on January 27.
The form three boy allegedly attacked two teachers who summoned him for punishment after he reported to school late.
One of the teachers, Edwin Mokaya, sustained severe stab wounds on his face after the student who didn’t want punishment attacked him.
Elvis Maoto, the second teacher, suffered injuries on his wrist while preventing the student from attacking his colleague.
While the form three student was arrested, the two were rushed to Ram Hospital in Kisii, where they continue receiving treatment.
The unfortunate occurrence comes barely a few days after a 22-year old university student hacked his entire family to death.
