The Most Exciting Smartphones Still Set to be Revealed This Year

Apple presented its new iPhone lineup a few days ago. For many, the best way to describe this year’s iPhone lineup is “unimpressive” – it felt more like an update on last year’s models than the unveiling of something new. Of course, there are a few features that are a welcome addition to Apple’s smartphone – the dual camera is one of them, present on some Android phone models since 2016 – but overall, the new iPhones feel like slightly upgraded and polished versions of those revealed around the same time in 2018. Perhaps we can expect a few major improvements with the release of the iPhone 12 next year.

But now, let’s take a look at some of the more exciting smartphones that are still set to be released before the end of the year.

    Google Pixel 4 series

Google’s Pixel series has received its share of praise and criticism over the years, with many asking themselves why the tech giant even bothers to release these phones at all (Google is nowhere near the top 10 biggest smartphone makers in the world). It may be a matter of prestige or a way to showcase all the potential features of the brand new mobile operating systems running on them – whichever the case, Google continues to work on its Pixel series that this year reaches the fourth generation.

There is not much to know about the upcoming Pixel series (likely to be presented to the world this October) will have two innovative features: Motion Sense, using the phones’ “Soli” radar to respond to hand gestures, and Face Unlock, another Soli-powered feature that will allow unlocking your phone and even authenticating payments by simply looking at your phone.

    Huawei Mate 30 Pro

Huawei Mate 30 Pro is as much an exciting handset as it is an interesting one – especially because it will be the first flagship from the Chinese telecom giant that won’t have the permission to use Google’s apps and services (basically, Android). This doesn’t mean that Huawei won’t be able to use Android at all – its open-source component, AOSP, is free for anyone to use – but it won’t have access to Google’s Play Store and services. Reportedly, the phone will run AOSP with alternatives to Google’s apps – like the App Gallery, ProtonMail – and will be fully compatible with all existing apps and web services. This means that its buyers will be able to continue playing their favorite games and check out the odds at Betway on the web – they’ll just have to find an alternative source for their apps. Among others.

    Nokia 9.1 Pureview 5G

Finally, here is a phone that is expected to make some waves when it’s released this year: HMD Global’s Nokia 9.1 Pureview 5G. Nokia 9 was disappointing for some – its five-camera setup didn’t deliver the expected speed and performance. Besides, many considered it ugly at the time of its release. The updated version of the Nokia 9, called Nokia 9.1 Pureview 5G, will – as its name suggests – come with a built-in 5G modem and a vastly improved camera experience. The camera is said to be the reason why its release has been pushed back toward the end of the year – the manufacturer wanted to further test and refine the experience, with special focus on its video and low-light performance.

Otherwise, the Nokia 9.1 Pureview 5G will be a bona fide flagship powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset, at least 6GB of RAM, and an improved design.
