Thugs kill three watchmen in secondary school

Three watchmen on duty at Kivayea Secondary School in Matete sub-county, Lugari constituency, died after thugs attacked and hacked them.

The thugs, whose number remains unknown, killed three security guards and injured one. One of the watchmen managed to escape.

Locals found the dead bodies of the watchmen at different locations earlier this morning. 45-year-old Situma Shitikho, the injured watchman, is in critical condition. He is receiving treatment at Webuye Sub-county Hospital in Bungoma county. The one that managed to escape is called Luca Wanjala.

The deceased watchmen are Henry Khoya (55), Edward Wanyama (40), and Evans Wanyonyi 56.

The thugs who are currently at large attacked the school at 3 am. They stole a public address system and television from the staffroom.  Additionally, they stole a laptop from one of the offices.

Thomas Ototo, the Matete Sub-County police commander, confirmed the incident.

“There is a possibility that the thugs hacked the watchmen while asleep from where they had positioned themselves. There were no signs of d struggle,” he said.

The police commander also said that the thugs never attempted to attack the students. He confirmed that they had launched an investigation into the incident. However, they are yet to make any arrests.

Officers moved the bodies of the deceased to the Webuye Hospital mortuary.
