Two bodaboda riders are in custody for allegedly defiling two minors in Homabay county. The two bodaboda riders lured the two young girls to a rental house in Asego sub-location.
The two minors are still in primary school. One is a class seven pupil and the other one is a Kenya Certificate of Primary Education candidate.
Police officers suspect that the two boda boda riders were sexually assaulting the two minors in the three days that they had locked them in the house.
Concerned neighbors alerted the area chief that two young girls were locked in a rental house. Tom Ondiek, the Asego Sub-location Assistant Chief arrested the two suspects after residents gave him information about the two minors.
One neighbor revealed that the two girls have been hiding in the house since Friday. She got suspicious that something wrong was going on and decided to alert the authorities.
The Asego Sub-location Assistant Chief decided to visit the premises. On arrival, he found the two girls in the company of the two suspects.
The assistant chief revealed that he acted on a tip-off from concerned members of the public. According to the assistant chief, the local residents were worried that the minors were not safe.
Mr Ondiek went to the rental house very early in the morning before the bodaboda riders left for work. He arrested them and took them to custody.
Officers took the two girls to County Referral Hospital where they are undergoing medical check up.
Joseph Otieno, the Homa Bay Children Officer, noted that they are aware of the incident and that they would follow up the matter in court. He also said that officers will arraign the two suspects in court once the investigations are complete.
The children’s officer also said that they intend to take action against the parents of the minors if investigations reveal that they were negligent.
