Uhuru's Remarks on Kibra By-election Pits Murkomen Against City Lawyer

  • Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen took aim at city lawyer Donald Kipkorir for criticising team leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto regarding President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks on the November 7 Kibra by-election.

On November 15, President Uhuru met with elected and nominated leaders from the Mt Kenya region at Sagana State Lodge.

The head of state summoned leaders from the region’s counties to hold discussions on a number of issues, including development projects and the brooding political battle between leaders in the country.

Kipkorir alleged that President Uhuru labeled the Kibra by-election as the most peaceful ever before the handshake, and went on to call out team tanga tanga.

“Tanga tanga members who had said it was violent must be hiding. Only one person had stones …Thank you, Mr President, for the truth,” read DBK’s tweet.

His remarks attracted backlash from Senator Murkomen who asked the lawyer to refrain from the debate unless he was a blogger and could afford sleep over it.

Murkomen reminded the lawyer that Uhuru’s meeting was only for those invited and informed Korir that if the president’s gathering was in need of a blogger, they would have invited him, and conducted it in the local Marakwet dialect.

The president’s meeting was only open to leaders from Mt Kenya and was viewed as a plan by the head of state to get his house in order.

According to Citizen Digital, the president insisted that the handshake was intended to bring peace, calling upon the leaders from the region to let him work in peace.
