Ann Waiguru, the Kirinyaga Governor, celebrated her 50th birthday on Friday, 16th April. She recalled her political and personal sufferings in the last year.
The Governor posted a message on her social media pages to celebrate her birthday. In the message, she said that she had survived several tribulations. Therefore, she was grateful that she was ushering in a new phase in her life.
“Today, I turn 50! I am grateful to God for His goodness in my successes, joys, and through my seasons of fires and darkest nights,” Waiguru said in her post.
“God has been closer to me like no other. He has blessed me with a wonderful family, good friends, and good health. What a blessing to turn 50,” she added.
Waiguru survived an impeachment motion last year. Kirinyaga MCAs had accused her of violating the constitution, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.
On 27th June, an 11- member Senate committee ruled that the charges against the Kirinyaga Governor were unsubstantiated.
Waiguru said that she had forgiven the forces behind her impeachment motion. She also acknowledged that experience had revealed areas that needed improvement in Kirinyaga County.
Two months after the Senate cleared her, the EACC raided her house over alleged involvement in graft.
