Former Bomet County Governor Isaac Ruto together with Kipsigis elders on Thursday 10 September 2020 apologized to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mama Ngina following attacks against him that saw the former First Lady’s name dragged.
Speaking to the media, Ruto stated that they were very shocked by Kapseret’s Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and his Emurua Dikirr counterpart Johanna Ng’eno attacks on Uhuru Kenyatta’s family.
“We want to say that we are taken aback and shocked by the utterances of our two Members of Parliament; Mheshimiwa Ng’eno and Mheshimiwa Sudi. That is not the current leadership and we were terribly shocked. We really didn’t expect that,” he said.
He went on to reveal that despite Ng’eno attacking President Uhuru and his family, he has no close connection with them adding that he has never met the President.
“Johanna Nge’no has not come to close contact with the Kenyatta family. He is not close and has not met even Uhuru Kenyatta. Other than being a Member of Parliament, he has no personal interaction alongside a long list of other MPs. Mama Ngina Kenyatta is highly respected and she has never participated in public affairs in a manner that would make someone do that.”
“We apologize to the family of Uhuru Kenyatta and specifically apologize to Mama Ngina Kenyatta for these terrible utterances by members of our society,” he apologized on their behalf.
Isaac Ruto pointed out that their community had no problem with the Kenyatta family stating that the late and former President Jomo Kenyatta is a revered leader across the nation.
Ng’eno and Sudi made headlines this week after they both attacked President Uhuru Kenyatta’s way of leadership while dragging Mama Ngina’s name into the fight.
Ng’eno was arrested on Monday 7 and was charged with hate speech. The Court has granted him Ksh. 1 million bail after he denied the charges.
Meanwhile, Sudi has denied ever insulting anyone making it clear that he was not going to apologize.
