A woman’s body, who was later identified as Sheila Njeri Murage, was discovered in the leafy suburbs of Kilimani Nairobi last Saturday. The body was found lying in a flower bed at Santonia Court apartments. In her hands was a partially smoked stick of marijuana.
Rumors of a house party later emerged from the neighbors. They say that they heard noises and loud music coming from one of the apartments where they assumed a party was ongoing. Given the strict covid-19 rules that ban social gatherings, this was a breach of the law.
The host of the party is said to be Ms. Claire Ngeh’no. Her apartment is among six other houses in Santonia Court apartments. In attendance were Christine Awuor Aluoch, Shem Lwanga Mang’ula, and the deceased.
When interviewed, the neighbors all agreed to have heard loud music and raised voices, but none heard any commotion or tussle. The three revelers deny any knowledge of the whereabouts of the deceased but agree that she was at the party. All three say they did not know when she left or who was responsible for her death.
The Kilimani police division is leading in the investigation of the suspected homicide. A post-mortem done on Njeri’s body revealed that she had been possibly hit on the head by a blunt object. Therefore, blunt force trauma is the inconclusive cause of death, according to Dr. Frank Njenga, who conducted the medical investigation at the City Mortuary.
The detectives leading the investigations have gone on record to state that the three revelers might have more knowledge on Njeri’s killer. Their recorded statements on the version of events of the fateful night were all contradictory.
Lead detective John Mwasi said:
“The respondents herein were arrested on 17th July 2020, at Santonia Court within Kilimani area on the suspicion of having committed an offense of murder,”
DNA samples of the three, fingerprints and CCTV footage from the building have all been seized and are being further analyzed. The family and friends of the deceased await justice for their slain daughter and confidant.
