According to the leading public health epidemiologist in Hong Kong’; the epidemic could spread to about two-thirds of the world’s population if left unchecked. The epidemiologists warning came after the head of WHO said that; the recent cases of the viruses in patients who had never visited China could be the tip of the iceberg.
The chair of public health medicine said that the overriding question is the size and the shape of the iceberg. He added that most experts thought that each infected person would transmit the virus to 2.5 other people, giving an attack rate of 60-80%.
Leung, an expert in the coronavirus epidemic, said that; the incubation period where infected people don’t show any symptoms remained a huge problem. He added that; to ensure quarantined people are not still carrying the virus when they leave, everybody should get tested daily.
If anyone in the quarantined zone tests positive, the clock should reset to fourteen more days for all the others.
Mr Leung talked to the health minister, also deputy prime minister in Thailand and advised him to set up quarantine camps, which the Thai government has now done.
Mr Leung said that; people need to have faith in their government while the uncertainties of the virus get worked on by the scientific community. He added that; with social media, fake news and real news getting mixed up, leads to zero trusts on those working hard to find the cure.
China removed several officials over how they handle the coronavirus outbreak. The party secretary for the Hubei Health commission and the head of the commission, among others, lost their jobs. Removal from a particular role does not mean one gets entirely fired; it could also mean a demotion of the person.
2,478 new coronavirus cases identified in mainland China, bringing the total number of infections to 43,090 as of Tuesday morning. On Monday, 108 people died from the virus in mainland China, bringing the total to 1,016 deaths and nearly 4,000 cured and discharged from the hospitals. The quarantined ship has 135 people infected by the virus, twenty four of them Americans.
Japan has 13 confirmed cases.
A super spreader is a patient who infects more people than usual. On average, a person passes the virus to one or two people and others none. A super spreader, however, has a significant effect on the outbreak. Dr McDermott said that super-spreaders contributes to the struggles of containing an outbreak. According to recent reports, a super spreader in the UK may have infected at least eleven people in three countries.
