    EPL at a glance

    The English premier league has once again has made a debut for another decade marked by several matches played on the eve of the new year.  The decades opening match was between Brighton and Hove and Chelsea where the two teams stumbled into a draw at Falmer stadium. The opening goal came at the tenth minute from Chelsea’s captain César Azpilicueta after connecting a corner kick. The game went to a levelled ground at the 80th minute after Alireza’s overhead kick found the back of the net leading to a 1-1 draw.

    The second match of the day which involved Tottenham hotspurs and Southampton ended 1-0 in favour of the saints at the st. Mary’s stadium. Southampton’s solo goal came the 17th minute through a magnificent strike from Danny Ings. On the other end, Leicester managed to secure a three-point win against their hosts Newcastle after thrashing them three goals to zero. Perez, Maddison and H. Choudhury hit the target to ensure Leicester maintained their second position in the league table.

    Westham united was also on a good form as they managed to thrash their rival visitors Bournemouth FC to obtain a vital win of 4-0. M. Noble was on target twice the second time being from a penalty spot. Haller and Handerson also managed to find the back of the net to assure Westham of one of the most remarkable wins in history. Aston Villa also managed to start off the new year in style after beating their close rivals Burnley 2 goals to 1 to secure a vital away win. Wesley and Grealish were on target for Aston Villa while Christian Wood gave Burnely their only goal.

    The matchday came to an end as the two English giants, Arsenal and Manchester United faced off one another in a late kick-off at the Emirates stadium. The gunners managed to outdo the visitors, the Red Devils through the expensive summer signing Nicholas Pepe and Sokratis to ensure a 2-0 victory at home.
