Champions League: Atlético de Madrid qualified, AC Milan eliminated, Real Madrid secures first place

At the end of the suspense, Atlético de Madrid got ahead of Porto and will play well in the round of 16 (3-1), to the detriment of AC Milan, beaten by Liverpool and last in group B (1-2). For its part, Real Madrid beat Inter Milan and finished in the lead (2-0). Discover the results of the last day of C1.

After the victory of PSG against Club Bruges (4-1) and the qualification of RB Leipzig in the Europa League, after beating Manchester City (2-1), the last day of the Champions League continued this Tuesday evening, with decisive matches. If Liverpool are assured of being qualified and in the lead, the race for second place will have been fierce to the end. Opposed to the redesigned Reds, AC Milan had to win at all costs to see the round of 16. The evening had started perfectly for the men of Pioli, after the opening of the score of Tomori (1-0, 29th). But before the break, the inevitable Salah equalized and weighed down the Rossoneri (1-1, 36th).

After a heavy error by Tomori in front of his goal, Maignan could push back … but directly on the head of Origi (2-1, 58th). A terrible event for the Milanese, who passed last in Group B, behind Porto and Atlético de Madrid. Unable to react after conceding the second goal, AC Milan ended its European campaign prematurely. On the Portuguese side, Atlético de Madrid moved on the lawn of FC Porto and hoped for a bad operation from AC Milan.

Atlético have cracked Porto

But nothing was easy for the Colchoneros, who saw Suarez come out in tears from the 13th minute and suffered tremendously and could thank Oblak. Completely against the course of the game, Griezmann delivered Atlético by taking a decisive corner before the hour mark (1-0, 56th). The Colchoneros were forced to finish the game at ten, after the expulsion of Carrasco, guilty of a nasty gesture on the neck of Otavio (67th).

The match then degenerated after a general fight and Wendell was sent off after an elbow on Cunha’s throat a few minutes later (70th). At the end of the suspense and after the two teams were reduced to ten, Correa sealed the score at the very end of the match thanks to Correa and De Paul (3-1, 89th, 90th + 1). It is therefore Atlético de Madrid who qualified for the rest of the competition like the Porto players, relegated to the Europa League.

Real Madrid punish Inter Milan, Haaland scores brace

In Group D, the other shock of the evening was between Real Madrid and Inter Milan. While the two teams are already guaranteed to play the next round, Inter Milan hoped to bring down Madrid, in their den at the Santiago Bernabéu. Dominating and dangerous in front of goal, the Nerazzurri almost undermined the Merengues at the start of the game, but as often since the start of the season, Real know how to be effective. Well shifted by Rodrygo, Kroos released a nice powerful strike to open the scoring (1-0, 17th). Reduced to ten after the expulsion of Barella (62nd), Inter Milan could not reverse the score and conceded a second goal, after a sublime curled shot from Asensio (2-0, 78th). The Nerazzurri therefore finished in second place. Guaranteed to play in the Europa League, Sheriff Tiraspol snatched the draw against Shakhtar. After a goal from Fernando (1-0, 42nd), Nikolov saved his people in stoppage time (1-1, 90th + 3).

For the last group of the evening, Borussia Dortmund finished perfectly and won clearly against Besiktas (4-0), thanks to the achievements of Malen (29th), Reus (45th + 2, 53rd) and a double from Haaland (69th, 81st), just entered the game. However, the BVB will continue its European season in the Europa League. Eliminated, the Besiktas finished without the slightest point taken. Already assured of being in the lead, Ajax also delivered a recital against Sporting Portugal (4-1). Haller (8th), Antony (42nd), Neres (58th), Berghuis (62nd) scored, but Sporting finished second in the group.
