Chelsea: N’Golo Kanté case is debated

While the transfer window will close its doors soon, should Chelsea separate from N’Golo Kanté? The debate is open in England.

It’s an open secret, Antonio Conte would like to recruit N’Golo Kanté on the Inter side this summer. The Nerazzurri have even made concrete offers. The most recent included a transfer fee and two players, namely Christian Eriksen and Marcelo Brozovic. A proposal immediately swept aside by Chelsea.

With a contract binding the midfielder until June 2023, the Blues do not seem to really know how to position themselves on this file. Frank Lampard said just recently that he adores the French international. Only, we learn in the columns of Daily Mail, that the Frenchy does not have the status of untransferable this summer.

A nice financial blow

Indeed, the English tabloid explains that an offer of the order of 80 M € could seriously give thought to the London board which, since the start of the summer, has been spending especially without counting (Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Malang Sarr and perhaps soon Édouard Mendy). The economic question justifies the hesitation of the English team, fourth in the Premier League in 2019/20.

In view of his impressive salary (16.5 M € per year), Roman Abramovich and his teams are therefore wondering if this transfer window is the right one to sell the international tricolor (41 selections, 1 goal). But that’s not all. Often used to the former Caennais knocking down the work of two players, they saw his physical limits and began to doubt.

Physical and tactical doubts

The last exercise of the 2018 world champion, marked by 5 different injuries and 28 matches played out of 55, visibly cooled the residents of Stamford Bridge. They wonder if, after five seasons across the Channel (one with Leicester, four with Chelsea), the 29-year-old marathoner is not worn out by the exhausting pace of the Premier League.

The tactical dimension also comes into play in this debate. Analysts are indeed wondering whether the 4-3-3 installed by Lampard is the system that really suits him best. Many questions, therefore, on the side of Chelsea. N’Golo Kanté, for his part, wisely awaits what follows. Without flinching, but sure of his strength, as his last two outings with the France team have shown …
