Often associated with a departure during this summer transfer window, Antoine Griezmann is still a FC Barcelona player. And in the event of departure from Catalonia, the French international wishes to join only one club: Atlético de Madrid.
If Paris Saint-Germain, Olympique de Marseille or OGC Nice are the big players in the summer transfer window in France, on the side of Spain, it is FC Barcelona that has been making a lot of talk in recent weeks. After the beautiful arrivals of Sergio Agüero or Memphis Depay, Barça had to manage the Lionel Messi file. At the end of the contract at the end of June, the Argentinian had not extended and was therefore free. But all parties have recently agreed to a new lease, and the only thing missing is the officialization of the news on the other side of the Pyrenees.
The Blaugranas certainly thought they would be quiet then but there is another very important case to manage: that of Antoine Griezmann. Arrived at FC Barcelona in July 2019 from Atlético de Madrid, the native of Mâcon still has three years of contract in Catalonia but this summer, his name comes back with insistence when it comes to evoking departures. Affected by the financial crisis linked to Covid-19, the Spanish club must sell or lend players to reduce its payroll, and “Grizou” could be one of the players sacrificed. But not everything is easy.
Antoine Griezmann does not want to be a bargaining chip
This Saturday morning, the local daily Sport claimed that FC Barcelona had several offers on the table for former Colchonero but the latter blocked everything. Because the principal concerned has a very specific idea in mind. According to information from Figaro, which confirms those of the Spanish media, Antoine Griezmann has only one club in mind in case of departure: Atlético de Madrid! The French media affirms that the 30-year-old player, who comes out of a long season (51 matches with Barça, 20 goals, 13 caviars, and the Euro with the Blues), does not want “to be included as a currency exchange ”, as had been mentioned with Juventus.
And if Antoine Griezmann wants to return to Atlético de Madrid, it is not for nothing. Le Figaro specifies that number 7 sees Diego Simeone, the coach of the Colchoneros, as “the one who understands him best”. The scene is therefore set, while an exchange with Atlético and Saul Niguez was in the air before it fell through. The Griezmann soap opera is only just beginning, and there is no doubt that there will be more twists.
