Finances: Real Madrid hit the jackpot in July

During the month of July, Real Madrid collected some nice checks, unusual at this time of year. What to compensate, in part, the losses related to the coronavirus.

The season ends rather well for Real Madrid, even if there is still this round of 16 return to play against Manchester City, for which the Merengues are on an unfavorable waiver after this 2-1 defeat at the Bernabéu. But Zinedine Zidane’s troops have mostly recovered the throne on the national stage, winning this 34th Liga. All in a climate of sacred union around the French tactician, and far from the controversies that marked the season of the sworn enemy, FC Barcelona …

Only, like its biggest rival and like many big clubs across the Old Continent, Real Madrid have not been spared by the crisis. A little less than some, of course, but since the deconfinement, the Iberian media estimate that the formation of the Spanish capital has missed an amount estimated between 150 and 200 million euros. Considerable losses, especially since everything suggested that we were going to witness a pretty frenzied transfer window. But as the daily explains AS, the Merengues have limited the damage rather well with a prolific month of July.

August may be just as rewarding

Real Madrid have collected 85 million euros during this month. In reality, that € 85million is not all of the money Los Blancos generated in the seventh month of the year, but an unexpected € 85million on top of the already usual income streams like the sale of derivative products or visits to the stadium and the museum, for example. Unusual numbers at this time of year, when there is usually no football, when the big sales of players are usually done in August. There are already 48 million euros coming from transfers. That of Achraf Hakimi at Inter mainly (40 M €), but not only, since Real Madrid also collected 3 M € by definitively selling Javi Sanchez to Valladolid, and 5 M € by shipping the Jorge De Frutos pack – Dani Gomez in Levante. The sale of club-trained players is therefore, once again, a great way to fill the boxes for the team chaired by Florentino Pérez.

The latter also recovered a good sum thanks to the title gleaned. Thanks to his title, Real Madrid receives a nice bonus which brings its total TV rights affected in July to 25 million euros net. And that’s not all, since Real Madrid ensures, thanks to this title, to touch 46 million euros spread over the next four seasons (the results of the last 5 years are taken into account in the distribution of rights in Spain). In addition to these 48 M € linked to the transfer window and to these 25 M € obtained via the TV rights of the championship and the coronation, we must add 12 million euros which will be obtained via the Champions League. This is the market pool for the next edition, which has already fallen into the clubs’ cash registers, and the month of August could also be abnormally profitable in the event of qualification and a good run during the current edition. It will also be necessary to add the sales of certain players like Dani Ceballos or Mariano Diaz. No doubts, Real Madrid know how to go about catching up, as far as possible, the consequences of the coronavirus crisis …
