Opposed to Serie B leader Empoli on behalf of the round of 16 of the Italian Cup, Napoli held their place against an opponent who dearly defended his skin. It was first of all the defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo (1-0, 18th) who opened the scoring before the Swiss Nedim Bajrami answered for the visitors (1-1, 33rd). It was then that a real ping-pong game took place between the two teams.
Before the break, Hirving Lozano gave back the advantage to Partenopei (2-1, 38th) but Empoli did not give up and Nedim Bajrami was in charge of putting the two teams back to equality while offering themselves a double (2-2, 68th). Finally, it was Andrea Petagna who scored the decisive goal for Napoli just after (3-2, 78th). A 3-2 victory which allows Gennaro Gattuso’s players to join AC Milan and Inter Milan in the quarter-finals.
