La Liga: Eibar players are afraid to resume

Date:

On Monday, La Liga announced that players can now resume training in Spain, a country that began the first phase of deconfine last weekend. “The recovery is another signal for a return to normality. Health will be paramount. That is why we have an integral protocol to safeguard the health of those who work. To play again is to win!” Javier Tebas, the Boss of the Spanish League. However, the announcement was not welcomed by the Eibar players, who issued a statement expressing their fear about the issue, as reported by Ace.

“We are privileged, we like to train and play every minute, that’s why we want to play. But before we are footballers, we are people. And like a large part of society, we are concerned about the health situation. We are afraid to start an activity in which we will not be able to comply with the first recommendation of all experts, namely physical distance. We fear that by doing what we love best, we may be infected, contaminate our families and friends, and even contribute to a new outbreak of the epidemic, with the terrible consequences that this would have for the entire population. The health of all must come first, and it is time for this idea to prevail through deeds, not just words. It is only with this clear premise that it would make sense to return to competition. We are asking for guarantees. We demand accountability”explained the players and the entire staff of Eibar, who are 16th in La Liga. The League’s trend is to resume the Championship in June.
