Real Madrid couldn’t have done better than a 0-0 draw at Real Sociedad for their first La Liga game of the season.
The defending champion was back tonight. While most La Liga teams are in their second meeting of the season, Zinedine Zidane’s troops had logically benefited from an additional week of truce following their participation in the Champions League. And the Merengues had a hell of a piece in front, since they were moving on the lawn of Real Sociedad. A special match for Martin Odegaard, who shone in San Sebastián last season and was initially scheduled to stay an extra season. He was also established by Zidane, alongside Luka Modric, while Vinicius Junior, Benzema and Rodrygo made up the top three. Opposite, David Silva started on the bench, but there were very nice people with Mikel Merino, Portu, Oyarzabal and Alexander Isak, among others.
Executioner of Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey last season, the club of San Sebastián was very solid in the first minutes of the game, while also being very intense in pressing. The Madrilenians were all the same little by little the foot on the leather, with a Modric very in sight. We also saw that the team of Zizou rather moved in 4-2-3-1, with a very high Odegaard. The young Norwegian was also touching a lot of balls, just like Vinicius Junior on his left side, but there was not yet really a hot situation to be put in their mouths. Madrid’s dominance was fairly sterile, just as Real Sociedad did not take advantage of their counterattack situations.
Two rather confused teams
Karim Benzema had a great opportunity but after eliminating Remiro, he could not fit (38th). The Madrilenians were in control and had a rather interesting offensive animation, but it was still rough in the very last meters. The French striker also tried his hand at striking, but slipped (40th). We had to wait for the 42nd minute to see the Merengues a little destabilized, on this corner concluded on a header from Robin Le Normand, above. Behind, Courtois came out a superb parade in front of Alexander Isak (43rd). The Swede continued on a rolled up a little too much then (44th). A little warning for the Spanish champion. The 22 players in the game, however, returned to the locker room with this score of 0-0.
Just back on the meadow, the locals were still on the verge of opening the scoring, since after this caviar from Odegaard, Barrenetxea saw his flat of the foot brush against the right post of Courtois (47th). The Basques raised concerns for the Merengues, who were much less conqueror and dominant. At the hour mark, David Silva came into play, but failed to have much influence. Zinedine Zidane made a triple change, bringing in Casemiro, Fede Valverde and … Marvin, the 20-year-old trained at the club. The latter did not benefit from a good service from Vinicius Junior (78th). The score did not change, while we felt a lot of fatigue on both sides at the end of the match, which caused a lot of inaccuracies and bad choices. It should be noted the good match of Varane on the side of Blancos. A small point to start the season for the Merengues.
