A few weeks before the resumption of the Premier League, Manchester United and its supplier adidas unveil the new jersey that Jadon Sancho and his partners will wear away from home. The Red Devils have been linked to adidas since the start of the 2015-2016 season when Nike had the chance to equip legends like Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo for 13 long years. If since its arrival, the brand with the three stripes has shown respect for the DNA of the club at the level of the jerseys worn at Old Trafford, it has let its creativity speak for the away and third tunics. Since his hatching among the professionals, Marcus Rashford has therefore worn secondary tunics in very different colors over the seasons and in the fall, this will once again be the case. But this time, adidas took inspiration from the 1990s.
A jersey from the past brought up to date
After the black, the brown or the pink of the last years, it is this time a mixture of blue and white that takes place on the tunic that the men of Ole Gunnar Solskjær will wear when they go to the lawns of Liverpool and other Premier League clubs. In addition to the new colors, it is a new design that presents itself with a rather original geometric graphic made of zigzags throughout the jersey.
This white and blue color draws its inspiration from the outer tunics worn by Manchester United players during the 1990-1991 and 1991-1992 seasons. Already at that time, adidas was the official technical partner of the club founded in 1878. Since then, the logo of the German supplier has changed from trefoil to the three stripes. The logo therefore already differs from the one used thirty years ago, but this is not the only change.
The collar has completely changed and has been modernized by becoming round. It is no longer two-tone but only white, like the end of the sleeves and the shorts, while that of Ryan Giggs and his teammates was blue between 1990 and 1992. The adidas bands, the logo and the jersey sponsor remain all the same. same red as at the time when TeamViewer replaced Chevrolet on the front of the tunic.
The new Manchester United away shirt is already available for sale in club shops.
