Asked by the press about his central defender Kalidou Koulibaly, the president of Naples, Aurelio De Laurentiis, sent a clear message to the 30-year-old Senegalese. The Neapolitan leader explained that he wanted to keep the defender, whose contract runs until June 2023, but that he would not force him to stay.
“He is the one who has to decide if he wants to be a symbol of Napoli. I can’t force anyone to stay, everyone has their needs. We respect everyone. I never forced anyone to stay when they wanted to leave despite having more years of contract. I only did it with Mazzarri. He told me he didn’t want to continue, but he didn’t like me. It has remained very well and has given us four years of satisfaction”, explained the Italian leader. The Senegalese international is notably tracked by FC Barcelona, even if De Laurentiis thinks that the Catalan club does not have the necessary funds to recruit the former Messin.
