Asoni Zubizarreta left, OM intends to appoint a general manager of football. Having told AFP, Jacques-Henri Eyraud claims to have a “short list” and promises the appointment of a “football expert”.
Although Andoni Zubizarreta has left his post as sporting director, OM are still waiting for its famous director general of football. On May 15, on the show Rothen Régale on RMC, Jacques-Henri Eyraud explained that Zubizarreta was aware of the imminent arrival of this general manager and that he could remain in the organization chart.
“I wanted to strengthen the organization and I will continue to do so. As early as last fall, I had warned him that I would be hiring a general manager in charge of football at the end of the season. We talked about it at other times in the season. This season is over, so this person will arrive before the news and we decided by mutual agreement that our paths would go away,” the OM president said.
Eyraud assures that “the ambition is intact”
While this new position as general manager of football raises many questions, the ligue 1 runner-up says he is making progress on this issue. “Obviously he will be an expert in football, those who have been able to say or write the opposite are totally off the mark,” Eyraud told AFP on Saturday, assuring that a “short-list” exists. A Marseille executive also assured the agency that the “attractiveness” of the club was intact. “We’ve had a lot of calls,” the source added.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of André Villas-Boas and the fear of a sanction of financial fair play, Jacques-Henri Eyraud believes that “ambition is intact” at OM, taking as an example the case of Alvaro Gonzalez. The Marseille president told AFP that the Spanish central defender, on loan from Villarreal, will remain at OM next season.
