For this last match of the weekend on the 10th day of the Premier League, Arsenal hosted Wolverhampton at the Emirates Stadium. 14th at kick-off, the Gunners had to win at all costs this Sunday to catch up with the leading pack led by Tottenham and Liverpool. The Wolves, currently in an almost similar situation, therefore had the same objective. Unfortunately, this meeting did not start off in the best possible way. From the 5th minute of play, Raul Jimenez, victim of a powerful head butt from David Luiz in the temple, had to leave his partners, evacuated on a stretcher after long minutes of waiting (14th). The match resumed and if the Gunners quickly got their foot on the ball, it was Nuno Espirito Santo’s players who took the advantage in the score shortly before the half hour mark through an opportunistic Pedro Neto who perfectly followed the trajectory of the ball pushed back on the bar on a header from Dendoncker (27 ‘).
The Gunners’ reaction was not long in coming. Three minutes later, Gabriel jumped higher than everyone on a good cross from Willian and deceived Rui Patrico with an uncrossed header. The two teams were then engaged in a fierce battle and the visitors again took the lead in scoring shortly before the break thanks to their Portuguese number 10, Daniel Podence (42nd). Ten minutes of added time were then granted after Jimenez’s injury, but the score did not change. Upon returning from the locker room, the visitors quickly suffocated the Arsenal players without creating any real opportunities. Aubameyang’s partners gradually regained control of the game but failed to equalize. With this new underperformance in the league (1-2), Arsenal is 14th in the standings, unlike Wolves who go up to 6th place.
