As part of the Premier League matchday five, Newcastle hosted Manchester United at Saint-James Park. A few days after their improbable defeat at home against Tottenham (1-6), the Red Devils hoped to dispel their doubts quickly with a victory. For their part, the Magpies could achieve a good operation if successful tonight. To find the way to victory, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lined up a 4-2-3-1 with the only Marcus Rashford in the lead. And the meeting started badly for United. Luke Shaw badly negotiated a cross from the right and deceived De Gea (1-0, 2nd). The Red Devils equalized before half an hour of play by Maguire upon receipt of a corner hit by Mata (1-1, 23rd).
Just before the hour mark, Manchester United missed a golden opportunity to take the lead. The referee of the meeting awarded a penalty for the Red Devils, but Bruno Fernandes’ attempt was rejected by Darlow (58th). At the end of the match, the Portuguese attacking midfielder finally found the net. Launched in depth, Rashford shifted Fernandes in the area which with an inside foot deceived Darlow (1-2, 86th). In added time, Wan-Bissaka (1-3, 90 + 1) then Marcus Rashford (1-4, 90 + 7) sealed the victory for the Red Devils. With their second success of the season, Manchester United moved up to 15th place in the Premier League.
