PSG announces the departure of Ángel Di María!

After 7 seasons spent in the colors red and blue, Angel Di Maria will therefore leave the club of the capital at the end of his contract, expiring next June.

Seven seasons and then goes. Via a press release published this Friday, Paris Saint-Germain formalized the departure of its Argentinian striker Ángel Di María at the end of his lease, linking him with the capital club until June 2022. Arrived in the summer of 2015 against 63 million euros from Manchester United, the Albiceleste international (121 caps, 24 goals) arrived at the Parc des Princes with the label of the second most expensive rookie in the history of the club at the era, behind the Uruguauen Edinson Cavani.

Since then, the man nicknamed El Fideo (“the noodle” in Spanish) has won 18 titles with PSG: 5 French Championships, 5 French Cups, 4 League Cups and 4 Champions Trophies. In addition to having participated in the Parisians’ first final in the Champions League, lost by the narrowest of margins against Bayern Munich, Ángel Di María not only beat the number of gifts distributed over a Ligue 1 season (18 in 2015/2016), but also became the club’s all-time leading assist provider with 111 assists.

“An irreproachable state of mind”

“Paris Saint-Germain would like to salute Angel Di Maria and his 7 seasons spent in the Red and Blue jersey, can we read in the press release of the club of the French capital. In 7 seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, the Argentinian international played 294 matches for a total of 91 goals and 111 assists. On May 19, 2021, during the Coupe de France final against AS Monaco (2-0 victory), he definitely entered the legend by signing his 104th assist in the Red and Blue jersey, thus becoming the best passer in the history of the Club, ahead of Safet Susic.”

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaïfi paid tribute to the Argentinian striker: “Angel Di Maria has definitely marked the history of the Club. He will be remembered by supporters as a player of impeccable spirit, who showed unwavering commitment to defending our colours. I give an appointment to the whole Paris Saint-Germain family, tomorrow at the Pare des Princes, to pay him the tribute he deserves. Enough to bring him a little more into the legend of PSG … while waiting to see his future destination.
