After recent attacks by La Liga and Javier Tebas over Mbappé’s extension to PSG, the LFP have decided to respond.
Decidedly, the extension of Kylian Mbappé continues to make a lot of talk in France, but especially in Spain. In recent days, La Liga has not hesitated to violently attack PSG, accusing it of not respecting financial fair play and therefore of turning all of European football upside down. The Spanish body was quick to file a complaint with UEFA in particular and to publish an inflammatory press release. And as if that were not enough, Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, added a layer, as did Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, who made virulent remarks against Nasser Al-Khelaifi and PSG.
Incessant attacks that did not seem to reach the president of the capital club at all, who had also responded quickly during the KM7 press conference. “I think maybe he is afraid that Ligue 1 is better than La Liga. We need respect, it’s very important, we respect people, we also need respect, for the rest, what is said, it’s not my business, we focus on our championship, on our player, we have the best player in the world. I don’t listen to all that, we’re focused on our project.”, he had launched. This time, it’s the LFP’s turn to defend its championship and its player.
“Your disrespectful remarks seem to be directed against Kylian Mbappé”
Via an open letter addressed to Javier Tebas, the Professional Football League and therefore Vincent Labrune, its president, wanted to respond firmly to these attacks. “We would like to express in the strongest possible terms our disapproval, but also our incomprehension, in the face of your latest attacks against Ligue 1 and one of our clubs. We are all the more shocked by these attacks as you are President of European Leagues (supposed to represent all leagues in Europe, including Ligue 1) and a member of the UEFA Executive Committee (whose role is to promote collective interests of European football). Your attacks on Ligue 1 and one of our clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, and one of our players, Kylian Mbappé, are based on your own interpretation of financial unsustainability and competitive imbalance, which you repeatedly award to Ligue 1 and one of our clubs”can we read in particular.
The former president of OM in particular did not hesitate to launch a small tackle in the direction of Javier Tebas afterwards. “Today your disrespectful remarks seem to be directed at Kylian Mbappé who is widely recognized as one of the best players in the world and who simply did not join your league, by choice, despite a similar offer. Unlike you, Ligue 1 welcomes and promotes players from our league and across Europe – including those in your league. Someone in your various functions would be well advised to do the same”. That is what is said. Waiting for the next round…
