Everton did indeed issue an official statement on Monday to “Confirm having suspended a player from his first team under the influence of a police investigation”. “The club will continue to support the authorities in their research and will not make any further comments at this stage”, we could read.
If we believe the Mail, the Toffees locker room is “shocked” after this news. And if the suspicions were confirmed, the scandal would amplify a little more. The Premier League, which resumes in four weeks, would have done well without such publicity …
