The Swedish striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s statue was on Sunday morning found vandalised. His fans are the one responsible for the damage after he invested on Malmo’s rival team. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, early December bought 25% of Hammarby’s shares, a move which angered the fans.
The fans burnt the 3.5-metre statue, sprayed it with paint and placed a ball over its arm with a graffiti writing “take away”.The Malmo municipality sports and recreational department spokesman stated that the statue has been taken for repair. In his statement, the Malmo deputy mayor Frida Trollmyr has told AFP:
“I can understand that many people are disappointed in Zlatan’s behaviour, but vandalising a statute is simply unworthy. Better to express your dissatisfaction democratically.”
This was not the first time the fans have tried to damage the statue. The first attempt occurred in December when someone had tried to saw through its leg. The vandalizers also went ahead to his home in Stockholm where they painted the text “Judas” n the door.
The 38-year old Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had a successful footballing career after making his debut in Malmo at the age of 18. In his football career, he managed to play for Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris St-Germain, Manchester United and LA Galaxy where he has just re-signed for Inter Milan. Zlatan will, therefore yet to make his debut on Monday 6th as Inter Milan faces Sampdoria.
