Anyone who loves screensavers should be happy with an addition in Android 13 that streamlines the management of this visual feature. The developer preview of the operating system reveals significant changes to make usage more integrated across phones.
Codes identified in Android 13 reveal the ability to run builds on screen savers. This is an experience inherited from Wear OS, the open-source OS version for smartwatches, which allows you to include extra information beyond the time, such as the battery indicator.
In practice, the new screensavers would no longer just move images to give them a more utilitarian character, as is the case today with the lock screen. It is not possible to know for now which features will be possible to incorporate in screen savers, but it is certain that the experience will be improved.

Google first introduced the new feature in android 4.2 Jelly Bean, along with keyboard gesture typing and the redesigned clock app. At the time, screen savers were called “daydreams”, but they needed to be renamed in Android 7.0 Nougat to avoid confusion with a VR platform that already existed at the time.
In Android 12, the user can choose from four basic options: colors that rotate on the screen, images from Google Photos, a single framed photo or a montage with multiple images. The screen saver is activated when the user puts the device to charge, right after the screen is automatically turned off.
The functionality is still under development, but it is possible that the API will be added in future releases. The Android 13 release schedule calls for developer-only builds in February and March 2022, with the beta slated for mid-year only.
For now, the new Android seems to have less news than its predecessor, but it will keep the focus on device protection and privacy mechanisms. Examples are the ability to quickly switch between user profiles, themed icons and an automatic clipboard cleanup function.
