New Apple AirPods Pro headphones may have a more rounded shape and lose stems that characterize current generation
THE Apple is working on the third generation of AirPods basic and the second of AirPods Pro. At least that’s what sources close to the company say, heard by the Bloomberg. It is not surprising, after all, an electronic product starts to be developed long before its launch. What draws attention is the possibility that the Pro version has design in the style of Samsung Galaxy Buds.
If the sources are correct, the new basic AirPods will have a design similar to the current AirPods Pro, with a shorter stem and removable silicone tips that, in practice, will transform the product into in-ear headphones.
The sources also told the Bloomberg that Apple is trying to extend the battery life of the model. But advances are unlikely to go much further. Active noise cancellation, for example, is a feature that should remain limited to AirPods Pro.
AirPods Pro, by the way, can go through the biggest change. Apple would be trying to make the headphones more compact and, in the process, the stem that characterizes the current generation would cease to exist.
In contrast, the new headphones would have a slightly more “full” and rounded design, a feature that can make the product resemble headphones such as those from Samsung’s Galaxy Buds line, or Google’s Pixel Buds line.
This would not be a simple change. The sources indicate that Apple would be dedicating a great effort to make AirPods Pro more compact and, at the same time, to include in them features like noise cancellation, antennas and microphones. Because of this, the functional aspect may have more appeal than the aesthetic in the next generation.
Rumors indicate that the new basic AirPods will be announced next semester. The next generation of AirPods Pro should arrive a little later.
