THE Alexa assistant is already present in many cars, but soon customized versions of the technology will reach the automotive sector, starting with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles: the company closed an agreement to adopt the Alexa Custom Assistant, solution presented by Amazon this Friday (15).
The name makes it clear that this is not a simple insertion of Alexa in the dashboard of the cars. Amazon’s intention with Alexa Custom Assistant is to allow companies in the most diverse segments to implement a kind of personalized assistant in their products, but based on the entire Alexa structure.
Companies that adopt this solution will have access, for example, to resources already developed for navigation, communication and, of course, artificial intelligence for voice commands.
With regard to the latter aspect, Amazon will make voice science specialists available to customers to help implement this feature. As the system is tailor-made, even the default name of the assistant may be different from Alexa.
According to Amazon, Alexa Custom Assistant allows the interested company to direct efforts only towards the development of exclusive resources, since the basis of the voice assistance system is already ready.
Fiat Chrysler is the first company to hire the new service from Amazon. As the project is only just beginning, the features that the automaker’s personalized voice assistant will perform have not yet been disclosed.
But we can have an idea. In early 2020, the company announced the Uconnect 5 system for entertainment and navigation which, among its features, brings compatibility with Alexa. Based on this, it can be assumed that the brand’s personalized assistant will have voice features for music and maps, for example (somewhat obvious features, actually).
