dexter came to an end in season eight, bringing an end to the story of the serial killer who chose victims who deserved to die, according to the code taught by his father. The ending, however, left something to be desired and frustrated fans.

To redeem himself from frustration, at the end of 2021 the miniseries premiered Dexter: New Blood, which showed what the character’s life was like 10 years after his escape. Dexter left the hot and humid climate of Miami to live in a small, cold town called Iron Lake, using the name Jim Lindsay.

The miniseries, then, brought a more exciting and exciting closure to the character, while bringing plenty of nostalgia to fans throughout its 10 episodes.

Phillips says that Hall knew the character would be killed off in the miniseries about two and a half years ago, and that the actor understood it was the best decision for Dexter’s fate.

“If Dexter kept getting out of every jam every time, we’d be making a superhero show,” says the showrunner. We wanted to bring as much humanity as possible to the series finale and say goodbye to the character with dignity and integrity.”

Clyde Phillips says that this ending was set to happen at the end of the last episode of the original series, but they ended up opting for the escape. In New Blood, Dexter would have the chance to escape once more, but if that happened it would be another mistake. The character’s fate was difficult, but the way it came about was quite significant for who he was and what he believed in.

Dexter: New Blood is available in 10 episodes on Paramount+.
