How to reset the iPhone, iPad and Mac Usage Time code

Usage Time is a great resource for tracking what you or your kids do on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. It creates a daily report on the behavior on Apple devices, what apps and websites have been accessed, and graphs of how often weekly use. In addition, it is also possible to limit access to apps, websites and establish usage and rest times.

In order to keep all your preferences safe, the Usage Time offers the use of a code different from the authentication standard of the devices. That is, you can choose a sequence of different numbers so that the settings of the resource are not modified by someone else.

If you have forgotten which number sequence you chose to block the Usage Time, below, we have prepared a step by step to reset the code on iOS, iPadOS and macOS.

Resetting the Usage Time code

Before you begin, make sure your devices are up to date with their versions:

  • iPhone: iOS version 13.4 or later.
  • iPad: iPadOS version 13.4 or later.
  • Mac: macOS Catalina version or later.

Then follow the step by step below:

On iPhone and iPad

Step 1: open the Adjust app, then tap “Usage Time”.

Step 2: select the “Change Usage Time Code” option.

Step 3: confirm the “Change Usage Time Code” option again.

Step 4: touch “Forgot your Code?”.

Step 5: enter your Apple ID data to reset the Time of Use code.

Step 6: enter a new code and repeat the sequence.

On Mac

Step 1: click on the Apple menu and then “System Preferences …”.

Step 2: click on “Usage Time”.

Step 3: at the bottom of the screen, click “Options”> “Change Code …”> “Forgot your Code?” and enter your Apple ID login and password.

Step 4: enter a new code and repeat the sequence.

Tip: activate the option “Sync between devices” so that the new Usage Time code is the same on your Apple devices.

Resetting the Usage Time code for a child’s device

Through Family Sharing, you can control a child’s Usage Time using another Apple device. For that, your device needs to be configured as the family organizer and follow the steps below:

On iPhone and iPad

Step 1: in the Settings, open the “Usage Time”. Then, scroll down and touch the child’s name in “Family”.

Step 2: select “Change Usage Time Code” and confirm the option again. You can authenticate the choice by Face ID, Touch ID or device code.

Step 3: enter a new code and repeat the sequence.

On Mac

Step 1: in the “System Preferences …” menu, open the “Usage Time” section. Then click on the drop-down menu located on the left sidebar and choose the child’s name.

Step 2: click in “Options”> “Change Code” and enter the Mac password.

Step 3: enter a new code and repeat the sequence.
