With the LiDAR scanner on the new iPhones, simply frame a person on the display for accurate measurements in seconds
The LiDAR scanner is one of the highlights of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. With high appeal for photographic and augmented reality features, the sensor can also be a useful tool for measuring people’s height – which can be convenient when you don’t have a tape measure nearby.

Whether to record a child’s growth over the months, take a person’s dimensions to make adjustments to clothes or even unmask that Tinder user who lied to heights, the iPhone Measure app can offer a result close enough to the real thing , according to first reports made by The Next Web.
In some situations, the scanner may be confused with the shape of the hair or accessories. But most of the time, the app delivers accurate measurements, consistent with those made in the “real world”.
How to measure a person’s height with the LiDAR sensor
To use the LiDAR sensor to recognize a person’s height, open the Measure app on a compatible device (iPad Pro 2020, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max) and fully frame the person on the display – make sure you’re taking the entire length, from feet to head.
After a few seconds, you will see a line at the top of the person’s head indicating the height, in centimeters. You can also register a photo of the person with the height annotation by tapping on the shutter button in the lower right corner of the screen.
