For a few hours, Canal + offered its subscribers the opportunity to preview the macOS version of myCANAL. Registration is now closed … but a public beta is coming soon.
Good news for Canal + subscribers who own a Mac, it will soon be possible to access the (vast) catalog of the myCANAL service from a native application. For several months, the application developers have been using Apple’s Catalyst technology to port the iPadOS version of myCANAL to macOS, which will allow both applications to be updated simultaneously in the near future.
Pending the official launch of myCANAL on the Mac App Store in the coming weeks, Canal + is starting to open the application to beta testers. After a first closed phase (recruitments have already ended), the developers of the application should offer the application to everyone soon.
Download on Mac
01net.com has had the chance to play with myCANAL for Mac on several occasions over the past few months. Overall, this app will not destabilize users of the mobile version of the app. Live, live control, replay, download… Everything is there. The application is easy to use and supports picture-in-picture to allow you to pin content to a corner of the screen. All Canal, Ciné +, OCS, BeIn etc. are directly accessible in the application while those of Netflix and Disney + open in your browser.
With its native application, myCANAL is a little ahead of the competition (Netflix, Amazon, Disney …) which, until now, has always been satisfied with a web-app on Mac. The arrival of Macs with an Apple Silicon processor at the end of the year, which will make them compatible with all iOS and iPadOS applications, could nevertheless be a game-changer.
