After vetoing any and all relationships between Huawei and TSMC, the United States government now seeks to smother the Chinese by pressing other partners. That’s because sources indicate that Washington wants the MediaTek cancels most of the manufacturer’s orders.
As we know, when banned from producing its own processors, Huawei was forced to buy solutions from MediaTek. The measure was mainly adopted in the market for intermediate smartphones. However, this did not please the government Trump.
According to the CSLA, US emissaries have already approached MediaTek in search of creating barriers in the supply of chips to Huawei. The intention is not to paralyze completely, but to make access to the Chinese as difficult as possible.
On the other hand, while Washington is lobbying Taiwanese MediaTek, the American Qualcomm has already sent a request for special authorization seeking to unlock the sale of processors to Huawei.
This move is somewhat contradictory, as the United States may harm MediaTek for the benefit of Qualcomm. Therefore, the subject must still raise many discussions in the market.
According to people familiar with the matter, the Department of Commerce should not harm Qualcomm. Therefore, chances are that the company’s order will be approved later this month. Thus, the company should provide Snapdragon processors for Huawei phones.
Sought to comment on the matter, MediaTek denied that the US government sought the company. Qualcomm declined to comment. Therefore, we recommend that you consider everything as just another market rumor.
