A new Xiaomi foldable smartphone patent was found in the database of the National Intellectual Property Administration of China (CNIPA) last Tuesday (11). The documentation includes 32 images of a product with an unusual format, but still quite interesting.
According to illustrations published by the LetsGoDigital website based on the sketches, the smartphone has a cylindrical shape, immediately referring to a speaker. The flexible display is attached to the body of the device and can be “unrolled” when necessary; at the bottom, you can see holes similar to the outputs of a speaker, which should indicate a great focus on the audio department, while the top has only one button.
Finally, there is what the rear camera system looks like, but there is no information about its specifications. Judging by the extremely bold design, the idea should stay on paper for quite a while. The Chinese took years to present its first bet in the segment of foldable smartphones – just this year, with the Mi Mix Fold -, so the unknown about the development of the device.
However, recent rumors have already indicated Xiaomi’s plans to expand its portfolio of foldable smartphones later this year. The model that has been leaked in recent days is expected to be a kind of “Ultra” version of the Mi Mix Fold, with news mainly in the camera department – the design, however, should be more “traditional”, just like the Galaxy models Z Fold 2, Huawei Mate X2 and Mi Mix Fold.
