The statement also said that Naomi Campbell had reached an agreement with Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala in a meeting held over the weekend.

“We welcome the exciting news that Naomi Campbell will advocate for tourism and travel internationally for the Magical Kenya brand,” CS Balala said.

Magical Kenya is the body in charge of branding Kenya as the ideal tourism destination. Thus, the body provides a database of Kenya’s great safari destinations for people planning to visit the country from outside.

    Improved infrastructure at the coast

Naomi Campbell, on her part, commended the Kenyan government for improving infrastructure at the Coast. The move, she said, would boost tourism in the region. Among the things that Campbell noted was the upgrading of the Malindi Airport to international standards.

She also said that she was impressed by the world-class facilities at the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Baobab course in Vipingo Ridge. The Vipingo Ridge is the only PGA certified golf course in Africa. Furthermore, Naomi Campbell took the time to call for golf professionals to play in the course.

“I invite golf professionals globally to visit the course to enjoy the experience,” Campbell said.

Her appointment elicited positive reactions from netizens, who commented under the Kenya Ministry of Tourism post with congratulatory messages.

Naomi Campbell is a frequent visitor to Kenya, and indeed, recently, she endeared herself further to Kenyans in her interview with Kenyan comic Elsa Majimbo. She is also one of six models from her generation to earn the title of ‘supermodel.’

Born in England in 1970, she started modelling at 15 and grew her brand through the 80s and the 90s.
